    indeed, or alternatively protect business by imposing tariff walls and give them subsidies on top of that. both are silly.

    i just came across another fantastic reagan quote: 'Welfare's purpose should be to eliminate, as far as possible, the need for its own existence.'

    i'd love to have all these reagan quotes made into bumper stickers. particularly this one - 'Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.' :)

    Sukrit, I think that's bloody marvellous. Back in the days I was a lefty, I thought the government's role was to be a kind of Robin Hood. I learned over the years it's more the robber baron.
